6000 dogs benefit from ComeDog
A dog lover had a brilliant idea how to satisfy the hunger of countless stray dogs.
The vet and zoological expert from Puerto Colombia, Juan Manuel Montoya, has come up with an idea for feeding and improving the quality of life of countless stray dogs: ComeDog.
In order to realize his idea, he ran with food for the stray animals through the city. However, there was not enough time to care for all the animals, so he searched the internet for solutions and found the feeding place of the actress Jimena Hoyos, a big dog lover.
The beginnings of the project “ComeDog”
Building on this model, Juan Manuel has developed a feeding station with a designer according to his ideas.
“I built it in my neighborhood. After that, I uploaded some photos on Facebook, which attracted a lot of attention. A few people have written to me, I always wanted to build a food dispenser but did not know how. That’s how the project became known, “says Montoya.
The ComeDog can only be purchased by private individuals. A flyer will be sent with general information about the project, as well as forms to fill out and then shipping will be initiated.
“I do not sell feed donors to businesses, only charities or individuals can buy them. The reason for this is simple: the goal is to give the food donor to someone who really deals with it properly and responsibly, “explains the inventor.
How does the feed dispenser work?
The feed dispenser can hold 5 to 18 kilograms of food and 8 liters of water and works on the principle of gravity. When the animals are eating, the food they feed will continue to slide down. In Colombia, there are about 380 such feeders, providing care for about 6,000 dogs throughout the country.
However, it’s not about selling more and more donors, but ensuring that no dogs or cats on the street have a dark existence.
Dogs fed this way are then sterilized and released for adoption. The project “ComeDog” has arrived so well that it is already being implemented in other Ibero-American countries.
How did ComeDog come about?
Five women started the project. They have made contact with a social network, evaluated all opportunities for cooperation for a good cause, and then started the first steps.
The next phase of the project was to contact Juan Manuel Montoya Pardo, a veterinarian from Armenia who lives in Barranquilla and was inspired by the idea of actress Jimena Hoyos. The plan to develop feeders for stray dogs started to take shape.
“We do not know exactly how many stray dogs there are in Neiva, but according to the environmental police, many stray dogs are in Leasburg Park, the first to benefit from the first ComeDog feed dispenser in Neiva.
In addition, this area is protected by the National Police, so can prevent the feeders are decomposed or destroyed, “says Rosnayra Córdoba.
Enough food and water
The ComeDog food dispenser is made of galvanized sheet metal and can take a weight of 22 kilograms of food. A sliding door makes it possible to fill in the food, which is later eaten by the dogs.
Each side of the food dispenser has devices that make it possible to fill the containers with about four liters of water. The dispenser is approximately 1.20 meters high.
Actions and support for the project ComeDog
Projects like these are accompanied by different actions:
- We are looking for assistance in filling the containers with food,
- for the adoption of sponsorships for the sterilization of animals and
- raising people’s awareness of the environment.
- Also support for campaigns for the adoption of dogs is important
- participation in sterilization, feeding and worming actions,
- sponsoring a ComeDog feed dispenser or finding suitable locations to set up.

Donate for ComeDog
The feed in the ComeDog feed donors is funded with donations from members and supporters of the project. To make sure the containers can always be filled with food, everyone can throw a few coins into the top of the food dispenser. The collected money is used to buy new food every 15 days.
In the places where the Come
Dog food dispensers are built, the residents are responsible for ensuring that the containers are always filled with enough food and are not damaged.
It is a fantastic initiative and a great example of solidarity and social participation.
